“I was served lemons, but I made lemonade.” In Episode 12 Kiara is joined by her former-pod guest and current work-wife Tiff to discuss Beyoncé’s cross-genre concept album Lemonade (2016) over a few Sweet Whisky Lemonades. Much like our cocktails, we make a case for why this album is sweet: the empowering nature of “bad bitch jams”, the celebration of and appreciation for Black culture, the chaotic coolness of Jack White, and the angelic voice of James Blake; but we also touch on the sour: outlier songs that just don’t fit, a strange feature from The Weeknd, and the debate over Beyoncé’s first country song, “Daddy Lessons”.
