In this episode I have the pleasure of speaking with Meghann Zenteno, the new Executive Director for the San Juan Symphony. She comes with 15 years of experience as music educator and non-profit administrator in Dallas, Texas, she also has a proven record as successful fundraiser. As an advocate for access to music education in schools, especially in urban school districts, she is a highly sought after award winning consultant for band programs. She gets the most joy from seeing the next generation of students reach their full potential. Meghann looks forward to working with The San Juan Symphony in continuing to bring beautiful music and meaningful experiences to people of all ages in the Durango and Farmington communities. In addition to the regular season concerts, Beyond the Concert Hall has grown to include many chamber music and chamber choir performances as well as a children’s concert. This season kicks off with Spanish Broom Flamenco at 7pm on Friday September 20th at St. Mark’s Church in Durango and at 2pm Saturday September 21st at the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington. Also during the regular season program there are guest soloists and a variety of different types of music presented from living composers as well as many of the classics. Each year the Youth Symphony orchestra also performs “side-by-side” with the main symphony orchestra and Meghann will continue with her deep commitment to community outreach programs in the area. This year she is excited to be joining the symphony for their 39th season called Radiant Echoes and working with Conductor and Music Director Thomas Heuser to bring a high level of classical music to our community. We are lucky to have her here in Durango! Meghann has a Bachelor of Music degree from Texas A&M University and has performed for many years as a clarinetist in regional symphonies. For more information and to buy tickets visit their website at sanjuansymphony.org.
