In this episode of the Kitsap Matters podcast, guests Joe Hulsey and Dr. Mary Gorman, the creators of the Poulsbo Blues and Jazz Festival, also known as PB&J , explain how the festival was born from Joe and Mary's passion for live music and their experiences attending over 40 festivals, particularly in New Orleans, which inspired them to bring the same energy to Poulsbo, Washington. They share the festival’s origins, the partnership with Poulsbo Rotary for community support, and their goal of creating an event that draws locals and out-of-towners alike. The first festival in February 2024 & featured 12 bands across four venues, with about 500 attendees. With its rapid success, the festival has doubled in size for 2025, planning 22 bands and five venues with an expected 1,300 attendees. Joe and Mary are also committed to supporting local businesses and artists, with all profits going back to community causes through the Poulsbo Rotary. Beyond the festival, they've launched a concert series throughout the year to keep the local music scene alive and build excitement for the main event. With ambitions to create a lasting legacy, they’re documenting their processes so that the festival can continue for years to come. Local listeners are encouraged to buy tickets early due to high demand.!
