This week On The Record, we look back at an interview done on "The Icons with Rick Horrow", originally aired nationwide on Bally Sports with one of the greatest coaches of all time, Lou Holtz. The Sports Professor and Coach Holtz discuss his upbringing, the transfer portal and NIL, and life lessons that everyone can learn from.

Lou Holtz is an iconic figure in college football, celebrated for his successful coaching career, motivational speeches, and sports commentary. Known for his turnaround of struggling programs, Holtz is most famous for revitalizing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team in the late 1980s, leading them to an undefeated season and a national championship in 1988. Over his 34-year coaching career, Holtz helmed programs at institutions like William & Mary, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina, with each team experiencing significant improvement under his leadership.

Holtz is respected for his emphasis on discipline, teamwork, and character-building, which he instilled both on and off the field. After retiring from coaching, he transitioned into a broadcasting career, providing analysis on ESPN and gaining a loyal following for his straightforward insights and sense of humor. As a motivational speaker, Holtz regularly shares his "do right" philosophy, emphasizing personal responsibility, positive thinking, and resilience.
