Have you ever wondered why you can begin a project but not complete it? Does it frustrate you not to finish something you have started? My guest Tim Vandehey co-wrote with Tracy Maylett the book titled Swipe: The Science Behind Why We Don’t Finish What We Start. Tim is a New York Times best-selling ghostwriter and co-author. Tracy Maylett is an organizational psychologist and expert in employee engagement. They started writing their book as a book to help businesses keep their employees engaged and retain them rather than lose them. They soon realized, however, that it had a greater application to us regular folks, who tend to not finish what we start and then be filled with regret. Tim discusses why we swipe – meaning moving our fingers over technology to move on to something else - and how it has become an unconscious conditioning. As he explains, we swipe when we feel discouraged, uncomfortable, or disillusioned. Tim shares some helpful insights as to what we can do and gives us hope that we can indeed finish what we start and fulfill our goals.
