Musician, label owner, photographer, residential real estate developer, these are just some of things this episode's guest Jason Shechtman has done throughout his life. Jay's past is an interesting one, much like the past of his current business Courtland Club. During a chance real estate deal Jay dug through the state archives to look up the history of a building he would purchase, what he found was a place that was once home to many bakeries and soon after multiple social clubs throughout 50's and 60's. This gave Jay an idea for a new type of social club, one that he would want to hang out at, and one that had an eye towards inclusivity rather than exclusivity. That idea turned into one of the most welcoming establishments in the entire city of Providence. A place where you could meet with friends and have a drink, listen to DJs spin music from different eras, and even have a locker with your favorite spirits inside. To quote a friend of mine during his first visit "every neighborhood should have their own version of Courtland Club". But this story goes beyond opening a bar, it's a story about neighborhoods, about community, about creating a space you would want to be in, and it's a story about looking to the past to inspire the future. This episode covers alot so if you want to just hear about courtland club skip to about 33 min in, but I would listen to the whole thing, because its one hell of a journey...enjoy
