In this episode, I talk to Tim Collings, CEO of 4I leadership. Tim is also a leadership coach, guiding on strategy and organizational design to help individual leaders and organizations create a sustainable future. Tim is also a fellow podcast host, producing the “Better World Leaders Podcast”, on which I appeared a few episodes back. On it, he speaks to leaders on a quest to make the world a better place.

Tim talks about current leadership styles, many of which are based on authority or hierarchy, and how this type of leadership fails to have the impact society and our planet desperately need. He posits (and I agree) that anyone can be a leader, because leadership is a set of qualities and capabilities, rather than a position in a hierarchy. Valuable leadership traits include foresight, flexibility, resiliency, and taking responsibility for the system each is part of.

Tim observes that emerging leaders often have a sense of interconnectedness which helps them innovate to tackle the pressing issues of our world/ systems. We talk about rediscovering old wisdom in the form of ancient societal constructs, which are based on relationships between beings and the land.

Tim gives listeners a great laundry list of authors basing their work on systemsn design and leadership on insight into nature.
