We continue the story as Ray and his wife struggle to get the bakery up and running. Ray, through trial and error, tries to get the bread to bake just right. Once perfected everyone is soon captured by the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread. Slowly, despite an issue with a temporary invasion of mice, Ray and his wife find themselves adapting to the new way of life and the independence it has to offer. Despite Ray's love for baking he is concerned he is no longer able to provide for the many things his family once enjoyed back in Detroit. Any slight need places them in a state of financial anxiety so he proposes to sell the bakery and move his family back to Detroit. Many offers are made but none that are suitable enough. As time progresses they broaden their menu and begin to scrimp even more in order to help build a getaway fund. Prepared to leave the next morning, they settle in for what they think is their last night in Cabeza New Mexico. Hit by a storm, the bakery is flooded and they are forced to stay the night in the Hotel. The next day as the people from town rally to assess and fix the damage Ray's wife concludes she can't leave. She has grown to appreciate what they have in Cabeza more than what they need. Thanks to Ray's persistent presumption of success and the many people who quickly and easily showed them love and support through all their trials she has grown to appreciate it here.
