Main Idea: The question of “how do you get to heaven” is one of the most meaningful questions a person can ponder on. With so many different ideas as to what the answer could be, Christianity propagates that the only way to heaven is through Jesus. But there are so many questions that are still attached with the simplicity of that kind of answer.

Today, we are going to talk about the idea of how one can get to heaven. We’re going to talk about why we believe Jesus to be the only way and what His purpose was on the Cross. We are also going to unpack different denominations of Christianity and how they each see the path of salvation differently. And at the end, we’re going to talk about specific evidence that affirm why we believe Jesus to be the Savior He claims to be.

The reason that this is so important to talk about is because many Christians have a difficult time explaining why they believe Jesus is the only way to heaven, and they don’t necessarily know why they believe that either. Not only do people lose the opportunity to hear the Gospel but many of the believers who couldn’t answer the questions end up abandoning their own beliefs. When tested, they realize their faith is built on sand rather than bedrock. You should always know why you believe what you believe.

1. Case For Christ

[IF JESUS ISN’T LORD, HE WAS A LIAR OR LUNATIC]

(John 14:6; Hebrews 10:10-12; 1 Peter 4:18; Hebrews 11:6)

The moment in which Jesus declared that He was the only way to be connected to your Creator, he eliminated every other possibility. If He is not the single only way to be connected to God in Heaven, then He would have to be either a liar or a lunatic. This piece of doctrine is something that you have to make peace with first before going onto anything else as a Christian.

2. Legal Standing

[YOUR BELIEFS AND DOCTRINE HAVE TO MAKE SENSE]

(1 Peter 3:15-16; Hebrews 10:24-25; James 1:26-27)

While your faith in Jesus is the first step to finding which way is up, there comes a lot of differences in opinions as to what your next steps should be. This breaks down into practical application of your faith through lifestyle changes, religious practices and sacraments. While some thoughts and beliefs can be compartmentalized into denominations, others are simply on whims and worldviews. At the end of the day, you should know why you do what you do.

3. Logical Evidence

[YOUR FAITH DOESN’T HAVE TO STAY BLIND]

(1 Corinthians 15:12-19; 1 Corinthians 15:3-9)

The Resurrection of Christ is the foundation to our faith. While many people have different personal reasons as to why they came to Jesus in the first place, the resurrection is what matters most at the end of the day. If Jesus did not rise from the dead, then everything that we believe and do is meaningless. While it takes a level of blind faith to believe that this miracle could happen in the first place, our belief in the resurrection is greatly affirmed by historical and archeological accounts outside of the bible. On top of that, using objective reasoning, you can come to rational conclusions about the resurrection being an actual event, so much so, that Christianity would still exist today even if the books of the Bible were never written and assembled.
