Family can be both a blessing and a challenge, but God calls us to love them—even when it’s hard. In this message, Discipleship Pastor Ryan Akers explores how patience, perseverance, and humility (the opposite of pride, if you are a fan of alliteration) can transform our relationships, reflecting the unconditional love God shows us. Whether you’re struggling with a difficult family member or simply seeking to strengthen your bonds, this message will encourage and equip you to love like Jesus. Watch now and discover how to see your family as the gift God intended them to be! 5-Day Devotional: https://www.theharbor.life/blog/tag/exposed-family Message Notes: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?page=rkC29pFd1l Discussion Questions: https://storage2.snappages.site/PJBKS3/assets/files/Exposed-8.pdf _____________________________________________________________________________________ Subscribe so you don't miss a thing! The concept of dating only began in the early 1900s. But as author Jonathan Pokluda said in his book, Outdated: “Just because modern dating wasn’t really around when the Bible was written doesn’t mean the Bible doesn’t have anything relevant to say about the subject.” And if you are not in that part of life where you are interested in dating, this message can still apply to you if you are: A parent raising kids who will experience dating. A friend or family of a single person that may need wise counsel, accountability, and prayer to navigate dating. A single person pursuing God’s gift of marriage who will likely experience dating. So, this message may apply to all of us in some way. Watch to see how God's Word applies to dating. 5-Day Devotional: https://www.theharbor.life/blog/tag/the-right-perspective-of-dating Message Notes: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?page=BkSRQDwcyg Discussion Questions: https://storage2.snappages.site/PJBKS3/assets/files/Exposed-7.pdf _____________________________________________________________________________________ Subscribe so you don't miss a thing! Genesis 1:28a says, "Then God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful and multiply.'" Now God could have thought up a million different ways to procreate—but He blessed us with the gift of sex, a gift designed not only to reproduce, but to bring pleasure. And these are pretty much the only two things we ever think about when it comes to sex, making babies and feeling good. But there is a far greater purpose to sex than just those two things. God did not create sex just for pleasure and procreation; He created it for another specific purpose. Watch this message to find out "The Purpose for Sex". 5-Day Devotional: https://www.theharbor.life/blog/tag/the-purpose-of-sex Message Notes: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?page=Sk7T94CYkl Discussion Questions: https://storage2.snappages.site/PJBKS3/assets/files/Exposed-6-updated.pdf ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Subscribe so you don't miss a thing! Movies, TV shows, and books on romance all seem to teach that "chemistry" is one of the key factors that lead toward success in a relationship. It's how you know you've found “the one", right? Chemistry is a powerful thing. It can make a relationship feel right—and when a relationship feels right—we often believe it is right. And it might be—but chemistry is not the litmus test to determine that. If God calls you to the incredibly difficult gift of marriage—passion and chemistry are great things to have. But it’s not enough. The reality is—chemistry might help spark a relationship—but it will never be powerful enough to sustain it. Chemistry—without commitment—will only lead to confusion and conflict. Cultivating oneness has nothing to do with chemistry, and everything to do with commitment. Watch this message by Senior Pastor Jeff Maness to find out what commitments help cultivate oneness in marriage. *NEW* 5-Day Devotional: https://www.theharbor.life/blog/tag/the-commitment-to-oneness Message Notes: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?page=Syx_MnZKkx Discussion Questions: https://storage2.snappages.site/PJBKS3/assets/files/Exposed-5.pdf _____________________________________________________________________________________ Subscribe so you don't miss a thing! The teaching of Jesus on marriage in Matthew 19 was so clear, so controversial, and so countercultural—His standard for marriage was so high—that even His own disciples, upon hearing Jesus’ teaching and expectations on marriage responded, “If this is the case, it is better not to marry!” (Matthew 19:10) In this message, we address one of the most sensitive subjects in the Church—marriage, divorce, and remarriage. But Jesus wasn't focused on the problem of divorce—He was focused on the power that’s available in marriage. A perfect marriage will never exist—but praise God, one full of power does. The primary purpose of marriage—according to God through the Apostle Paul—is not to solve our loneliness. It’s not to fulfill some romantic need or desire. It’s not to complete me, and it's not to “find the one". None of those things are bad. Marriage can provide companionship. There is and can definitely be romance and sexual fulfillment. But while those things might be by-products of a good and healthy marriage, they all fall woefully short of fulfilling the purpose of marriage. The practice of marriage without pursuing the purpose of marriage will always feel incomplete. Watch/listen as Pastor Jeff Maness explains why and how to keep that from happening in your marriage. Singleness is not a season to endure. It’s not something to simply wait out until something better comes along. Singleness can actually be that “something better.” It’s a status to celebrate. What is there to celebrate about singleness? Watch/listen to this message by Senior Pastor Jeff Maness to find out. Most of us grew up being taught that somewhere out there in the world is one person—we actually call them “the one”—just waiting for me to find them, to “be mine,” love me, kiss me, and be my soul mate. Until I do—until I find “the one”—I will be incomplete. Unfulfilled. I won’t be whole. But have we been focusing on the wrong thing? Watch/listen to the first message of the series, Exposed: Revealing God's Purpose for Relationship to find out what our true focus should be. Trust. It’s such a simple word yet carries profound weight. Who do you trust completely? Maybe you struggle to answer that question, especially if life has taught you that trust can be broken by those closest to you—friends, family, colleagues, or even yourself. But what about God? If He asked, “Do you trust me?” how would you respond? The truth is, trust in God can feel challenging, even for those of us who already believe. We may trust Him with our eternal souls yet hesitate to trust Him with our earthly circumstances. If you’ve ever felt this tension, know you’re not alone. What will define you in the coming year? In this Christmas Eve message, Pastor Jeff Maness walks us through the Christmas story from an angle you may have never seen before. The message of Good News the angels brought the shepherds was that a new King had arrived—and who had He arrived for? Luke 2:10 says it is for ALL people! It’s a message, screaming from the manger, that Christ came into the world not to be served, but to serve others—all others. This message of Good News had no limits. It was a message of service to everyone. Christ came to serve you and to serve me. Watch/listen to this message as we take a deeper look into the message of servanthood. At Christmas we celebrate that our omnipresent God entered into space and time as a baby. The Creator – who spoke the world into existence with the breath of His mouth – becomes part of His own creation. The all-powerful, sovereign, and in-control God becomes a helpless child with no control or ability at all, completely dependent on beings He created. Talk about submission! The message of the manger is a message of submission. But Christlike submission is not a sign of weakness; it is a show of strength. Christlike submission is a voluntary attitude of giving in, cooperating, assuming responsibility, and carrying a burden, all of which takes great strength. Watch/listen to this message as Pastor Jeff Maness answers the question, "What kind of submission did Jesus display?" This Message From The Manger is a message of sovereignty. Sovereignty means supreme power or authority. In theological terms, it refers to God’s absolute authority and control over all creation. God is never out of control, lacking control, or needing to take control. At all times – and through all things – God has ultimate power and authority over everything that happens. God is in control! Watch this message to see what this really means and how it can cause hurt and doubt in some while bolstering great faith in others. Click here for Pastor Jeff's Message Notes.
