René’s passion for martial arts took him to Japan, where he immersed himself in training and culture. However, a sudden car accident compelled him to return to the US, where he continued to refine his skills under the guidance of renowned instructors such as Rigan Machado, Professor Marcelo Garcia, Professor Lucas Lepri, and the Santos Brothers.

Beyond his accomplishments in the ring and dojo, René is fluent in Japanese, and holds a master’s degree in East Asian Studies from Columbia University, specializing in Japanese Military History.
