Substance abuse is a significant issue in the United States, and it can start with children in elementary school. Well, seasoned educator, Mr. Paul Vecchione in Long Island, New York has seen that and decided to take action. Vecchione has been in education for almost twenty years teaching students with disabilities and special needs. He has already made an impact in this world, but it hasn’t been enough for him. Vecchione has more to do, his life’s purpose has not yet been achieved.
Paul Vecchione decided to address our substance abuse and mental health issues head-on. He started a program in Long Island called Long Island Prevention and Resilience Enrichment Program (P.R.E.P.). This is a comprehensive program for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade, and incorporates a variety of strategies for students, parents and communities to tackle these issues.
Long Island P.R.E.P. will change things in this part of New York for sure, and can easily be implemented anywhere. There are no geographical limits. Now, to say that this is a game changer would be an understatement. This program, if used throughout the United States could truly help us, as a country, beat the substance abuse and mental health problem that are ruining so many lives.
