President and CEO, Joan Koerber-Walker, of AZBio joined Bob Roth on the Health Futures radio show and podcast recently. Together they discussed Arizona's bioscience industry and the massive growth over the past 20 years, with the number of companies up to 345,000 and an economic impact of $38.5 billion annually. The industry ranks 14th nationally in size. Key factors driving the expansion include strong research universities, an increasing network of medical facilities, supportive state policies, and a growing talent pool. Innovations happening locally include Calviri testing a canine cancer vaccine that could eventually help humans, and new blood tests that can screen for multiple cancer types early. The Arizona Bioindustry Association has set a goal to double the economic impact to $78 billion by 2033 through strategies around improving workforce training, assisting entrepreneurs, and providing investment funding. With lives being saved and good jobs created, the bioscience sector benefits all Arizonans via increased tax revenue. There is hope Arizona will continue leading healthcare innovation for decades to come.#azbio #azhealth #azcaregiving #azhomecare #cypresshomecare
