Donna Bungard, Senior Marketing Accessibility Project Manager at Indeed, is constantly working to increase inclusivity in job hiring processes. She is driven to ensure that Indeed's narrative and messaging help employers understand the value of hiring individuals with disabilities. This vision is heavily impacted by a crucial developing technology: AI. When implemented properly, AI can play a pivotal role in creating equitable hiring opportunities.
However, it is important to consider that AI and relevant algorithms are programmed by people. This means that implicit biases can be carried into these new technologies, resulting in the failure of AI to represent true diversity within communities. For instance, the community of disabled individuals encompasses a great degree of intersectionality and diversity. Recognizing this diversity requires collaboration between the innovation of AI technologies and the humans checking them. At Indeed, this balance is utilized to break down barriers for many underrepresented groups in the job hiring process and create an equitable future for employment.
