Today's episode discusses how global events like natural disasters and political unrest can impact our mental health and well-being.
We share personal stories from Nuala and Karin about their experiences with trauma while working on projects abroad and offer advice on how to take care of ourselves during times of crisis, which includes seeking support from loved ones or a mental health professional, practising self-care techniques, and taking breaks from the news and social media.
We also discuss how leaders can support team members during potentially traumatic events by creating a safe and supportive environment where they feel comfortable sharing their experiences and seeking support.
We provide tips on approaching and supporting others dealing with trauma, such as actively listening, offering support without trying to take over the conversation, and being mindful of not offering unsolicited advice.
Finally, we highlight the importance of prioritizing mental health and seeking support when needed. We discuss the need to normalize conversations about mental health in the workplace and to create a culture of support where team members feel comfortable discussing their mental health and know they will be met with compassion and understanding.
Join us for valuable insights into how to care for your mental health during times of crisis and create a supportive and empathetic workplace culture around mental health.
