Multi-talented performer Henry Phillips grew up on the outskirts of Los Angeles in a pretty normal suburban neighborhood with parents who are both actors. An accomplished touring stand up comic with critically acclaimed comedy albums.

Henry’s career actually started as a singer/songwriter. We find out how he morphed that into a stand up act. Growing up so close to Hollywood it was not a surprise that he would someday venture into filmmaking. With a small budget and a few friends in the business Henry produced and starred in his own film “Punching the Clown” which was released in 2009. A semi-autobiographical film about a comedian trying to make a career in stand up which won rave reviews. The journey to the big screen is a story in and of it self.

After winning awards at Slamdance (the Alternative film festival to Sundance) and ending up on Netflix Henry started to get noticed by industry people. That led to a second film, Punching Henry in 2017 which is appearing now on Showtime. This time around some heavy hitters were involved including Oscar winning actor JK Simmons and comedian/actress Sarah Silverman. Learn how they were talked into the movie and we get a funny story from the red carpet premiere.

Henry isn’t through making movies either. He talks about a new film he wants to make surrounding open mic music nights in the early 90’s. He has also had success on the small screen. His “Henry’s Kitchen” videos are a YouTube favorite and have spawned a Patreon following.

And then there is coffee. Much of his life surrounds coffee which has made for some rather interesting encounters. One particular story involves comedian, actor, producer Mike Birbiglia and an explosion!

Top off all of this talent with music. A love that started as an 8yr old and found Henry practicing the guitar for up to 4 hours a day. A rather accomplished musician, Henry shares his musical heroes and more.

The soft spoken Henry Phillips has a charm unlike any other person I have ever met. After listening I think you will agree!
