We all have experienced the sting of betrayal, gossip, and broken trust. And when that relational pain comes, it is only human to want to push others away. Practice # 2 – To Do Life “In Community” Weekly

I. Understanding the Need/Problem

  • Humanity was made in the image of a relational God. -- Genesis 1:26
  • Even in the best Environment – It’s not good to be alone. -- Genesis 2:18-23
  • Sin broke our relationship with God and each other. -- Genesis 3:8-12
II. What is Biblical Community? - a shared life with God and others
  • Accomplished by Christ. (Ephesians 2:14-20)
  • Enabled by the Spirit. (1 Corinthians12:12-13)
  • Experienced with each other. (Acts 2:42)
III. How Did Jesus Practice Biblical Community?
  • He invited others into His life (John 1:37-39)
  • He served - Mark 10:45 & Philippians 2:5-8
  • He chose to live with others in a ""small group"" - Mark 3:14
  • He was a true friend - John 15:15
IV. What Did Jesus Teach About Biblical Community?
  • Greatness is achieved through humility & servanthood - Luke 22:24-30
  • God's blessing comes when we put other's needs first - John 13:1-18
  • Love is measured by sacrifice - John 15:13-14
  • Community provides hope & a witness to the world - John 13:34-35
V. How to Do Life In Community
  • Daily training in servanthood
  • Engage in a small group
  • Review Romans 12:9-13 and discern next steps
