The Success of Failure ― Traversing the Nodal Continuum

In the second instalment of this episode I begin with a more detailed examination of the significance of success and failure as highly complex concepts, rather than mere antonyms of each other. I steer the discussion away from the broad consensus of opinion which propagates success and failure as polar or lateral viewpoints. In other words, to fail is not to succeed and success is simply the absence of failure. Moreover, when we stop failing, then inevitably we must succeed.
Instead of viewing success and failure as binary entities, my own viewpoint is that success can be thought of as a single transitory point which exists within perpetual cycles of failure. Hence, the concept of failure can be viewed as a vast structure consisting of deep patterns of negativity. Consequently, the momentum of this cyclical entity is broken at the cusp of the cycle, which then represents success.
However due to our cognitive bias, individuals will go to extreme lengths to avoid failure, not realizing that it represents the most dominant part of our lives. Rather than developing an aversion to it , we should change our mindset on failure; As not something detrimental and painful but as a tool for success.
I expand on this proposition by examining failure from arguably, one of the most important standpoints which is, the corporate perspective. In particular, the idea of adaptive learning systems which provide opportunities to experiment and fail. These key insights help us differentiate between different levels of failure, such as “failing well” and “failing badly” thus supporting the viewpoint that failure is not inherently bad.
Furthermore that success and failure are intertwined within a complex continuum and by understanding how each one relates to the other, it offers useful insights into the nature of failure and how it should be approached. In particular, the notion that individuals may learn less from their own failures, than from their successes.
