Video game adaptations have a bad reputation in the entertainment industry with multiple box office bombs and many critical flops. However, The Last of Us is being hailed as one of the first successful video game to TV/movie adaptations. What makes this adaptation different from the rest? In this podcast, we will explore how staying loyal to the source material, world-building, and respecting the source material can make or break a video game adaptation. Joining this episode are podcaster Aaron of WSTR and screenwriter Doug Levinson.

The showrunners made it a top priority to stay true to the original game while also adding their own twists and turns to engage fans. Additionally, world-building is an essential aspect of storytelling that can help to create an immersive narrative, and the importance of source material is crucial to creating a successful adaptation. Conversely, poor handling of source material can lead to disrespectful and ridiculous final products that turn fans off. Overall, it's important for filmmakers to care about the source material and do it justice when creating adaptations.
