Over on Doing Marriage Well this week, my wife is talking about sacrificing for our spouse. Sacrifice comes in two flavours: not doing something you want to do, and doing something you don’t want to do.

My recent posts about selfishness come into play here. Sacrifice takes a certain level of maturity. It also requires understanding who our wife is, and what she likes, wants, and needs.

A man in a t-shirt that says "Without sacrifice there is no love."

What does your wife like, want, or need that you’re not providing for her? Or aren’t providing in a big enough way? And a word about need. There are a number of things we need to have a healthy, growing marriage. Saying, “That’s not a need” is often a poor defence from a selfish spouse.

Is it time to man up and make some changes that will require sacrifice?
