In this episode of The Health Literacy 2.0 Podcast, Seth Serxner is joined by David Ballard, Senior Scientist for the Mental Health at Work Index, to talk about the complexities of workforce health literacy and delve into the Mental Health at Work Index™, a powerful tool designed to help organizations measure and improve their efforts in supporting workforce mental health.
Dr. David Ballard, a psychologist and organizational consultant with over 15 years of non-profit executive experience, specializes in organizational effectiveness, occupational health promotion, workplace mental health, program design and evaluation, and systems-level workplace interventions. He currently serves on the boards of The Health Project and Sound Mind.
In addition, David chairs the Society for Occupational Health Psychology’s Practitioner Committee, co-chairs the Advisory Committee for The Carolyn C. Mattingly Award for Mental Health in the Workplace, and contributes to NIOSH’s Cross-Sector Council on Healthy Work Design and Well-being. He is a member of the External Advisory Board for the Johns Hopkins P.O.E. Total Worker Health Center in Mental Health. Dr. Ballard holds a doctorate in psychology and an MBA in health services administration from Widener University.
The Mental Health at Work Index is a pioneering comprehensive analysis to measure and improve workplace mental health strategies and compare results against other employers. The Mental Health at Work Index provides a data-driven assessment and generates strategic guidance for improvement in 10 key organizational categories that are foundational and closely linked to workforce mental health.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Seth and David discuss:
