A week ago I got a text from a father of a student-athlete that reminded me of Myth #1 About Athletic Scholarships. The other 99% or so have to take the initiative to contact the schools where they have an interest. Most schools recruiting budgets are limited and coaches rely on you to contact them. The text I got was asking why some local, small colleges and junior colleges hadn't contact his son or the son's coaches about him. The son, the basketball student-athlete, had just been named to an all-conference and all-district team as the high school basketball season had just ended. This episode talks about how college coaches don't have the time or money to prosect the many high school student-athletes in the area, the state or the region.
