This month’s online presentation welcomes Millicent Borges Accardi, Pamela Hobart Carter, and Eleanor DeVito Owen.NEA fellow, Millicent Borges Accardi, a Portuguese-American writer, is the author of four poetry collections, including Only More So (Salmon Poetry, Ireland) and Through a Grainy Landscape. Among her awards are fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Fulbright, CantoMundo, Creative Capacity, the California Arts Council, Foundation for Contemporary Arts (COVID grant). The Corporation of Yaddo, Fundação Luso-Americana (Portugal), and the Barbara Deming Foundation, "Money for Women." Millicent lives in Topanga, CA. Through a Grainy Landscape has been nominated for a PEN award.Pamela Hobart Carter is the author of Her Imaginary Museum (Kelsay Books, 2020) and Held Together with Tape and Glue (Finishing Line Press, 2021). Slapering Hol Press Chapbook Competition finalist and Pushcart Prize nominee, Carter is co-author, with Arleen Williams, of twelve short books in easy English for adults. Her plays have been read and produced in Montreal (where she grew up), Seattle (where she lives), and Fort Worth (where she has only visited). For more than three decades Carter was a teacher. Eleanor DeVito Owen is a 2021 Pacific Northwest Writer's Association finalist in Adult Special Topics for Hobo Soup which she'll read from for this event. Born in 1921 she is an American journalist, playwright, university professor, costume designer, theatre actress, and mental health professional. She has received statewide and national honors and awards for her advocacy work on behalf of families and individuals with mental illness having founded the Washington Advocated for the Mentally Ill. Owen served as the president and executive director of WAMI, now known as NAMI Greater Seattle office from 1978 to 2002. She began working on her memoir at age 90.
