I’ve learned that being right has never done anything for my relationships but getting it right has done everything for them.” -Johnnie Williams III

I was often told to work it out as I was growing up. Whether it be sibling issues, homework equations I needed help with, fights with friends, co-worker disagreements, or life challenges.

Are you getting it all wrong trying to be right? (Y/N)

Play with this analogy I’ve demonstrated on many stages:

Stand across from another person, with both of you facing the other. Then, each of you point towards your right and see what happens.

You’re both right!

Yet, you both pointed to the others left; demonstrating that both of you can be right and wrong at the same time. Maybe we need to be more accepting of different perspectives and focus more on finding a common ground while sharing common goals.

ASK YOURSELF:

  1. when was the last time you thought to be the one that was right – even if you were wrong?
  2. Was there ever a time you felt you want the argument – but it cost you the relationship? (if yes… was it worth it?)
