One thing I would like to point out. Jamie and Richard both have decades of experience with the .308 for almost all purposes possible including as a match rifle, hunting rifle and varmint rifle. So, this is not just an opinion of someone's thoughts on the caliber, but real world advice from extensive experience with it in the field.
