In this week's 'News Roundtable' episode, host Chris Wright is joined by broadcaster and political commentator, Narinder Kaur, broadcaster and journalist, Charlie Bayliss, football journalist and host of The Italian Football Podcast, Nima Tavallaey Roodsari, and UK & US political commentator and journalist, Edward Hardy.
The conversation kicks off with the panel discussing Boris Johnson’s recent visit to Ukraine's capital Kyiv to meet President Zelensky. They debate his intentions, comparing his antics to Donald Trump’s. Why is Boris pretending to be Prime Minister? They argue about the justifications for this war – is the negotiating table the only place for this war to end?
The discussion moves on to Zahawi’s tax affairs; the panel considers how well Rishi Sunak is handling the scandal after the Head of HMRC said it was “not an innocent error”. They question whether a blind eye is being turned on criminal activity in parliament and the level of corruption within the Conservative Party – are serious changes to the vetting process urgently needed?
The panel talks through Sajid Javid’s calls for patients to pay for GP appointments and A&E visits. They look at the US paid-for healthcare system, which sees patients wanting to leave the hospital as soon as possible as they cannot afford the fees, and speculate the different avenues of how a paid system could work in the UK.
All this and much more debated on this week's
episode!
