Evan Nierman, the Founder and CEO of Red Banyan PR, a strategic communications firm specializing in public relations and crisis-management, joins Access Your Leadership for a conversation about how important life-long learning is to becoming and being a CEO. In this episode, Evan shares how valuable it is to “just show up” as a leader and business owner. He explains how celebrating the little wins along the way is as powerful, if not more powerful than waiting for some big event to occur. Evan not only talks about but demonstrates what vulnerability looks like in leadership and the significant impact it can have on those you lead. Why is the need for instant gratification so common these days and how does that play into one’s leadership journey and that of building a business? How does identifying team members’ level of “skill” and “will” help with understanding how to get the best out of your people? What does “hiring for mindset, teach for skillset” mean and how can that be incorporated into getting the right people on the bus and building a strong company culture? Is a fixed mindset a life sentence or can people learn/be taught how to adopt a growth mindset? Why was the option of entrepreneurship so attractive and what did you realize right away? How important is it to seek support early on and to surround yourself with the proper network? What’s the difference between working “in your business” vs. working “on your business?” Why would someone wait to call themselves an entrepreneur or even a CEO? How can insisting on doing it all on your own ultimately hold you back from greater success in your business? When and where are generalists and specialists valuable? What can personal challenges or events in our life teach us about leadership and business if we’re willing to be vulnerable and reflect? Evan demonstrates why he, his business, his teams and his clients all thrive as part of Red Banyan in his light, fun and open way of communicating. Enjoy the episode!
