In her insightful new book GET IT DONE: Surprising Lessons from the Science of Motivation (January 4, Little Brown Spark), scientist and University of Chicago Booth professor of behavioral science Dr. Ayelet Fishbach takes on the questions that plague us most: What happens when the person you most want to influence is yourself? How do you know where to start? How do you carry on in the face of roadblocks and distractions? How do you decide which tasks and ambitions to prioritize?

We were joined today by Dr. Ayelet Fishbach to discuss her new book, GET IT DONE: Surprising Lessons from the Science of Motivation (

Dr. Ayelet Fishbach, a leading motivational scientist at University of Chicago, has dedicated much of her extensive career to answering some of the biggest questions on the topic of motivation. Setting and achieving goals—at work, at home, and in relationships—is harder than it seems. Countless books and articles have been written on the subject of motivating others, but most are not penned by serious behavioral scientists at the forefront of this discipline. As Angela Duckworth says, “I don't know anyone, scientist or otherwise, who knows more than Ayelet Fishbach about the psychology of goals.”
