Episode 3: "Pressed for Versatility"
Host: Lisa. E
Guest: Shamekqua Smith
EPISODE SUMMARY
This podcast is dedicated to celebrating the journey of black women to embrace their natural hair, with our host, Lisa. E, aka Natural Born Sister, who inspires black women to groom and confidently flaunt their natural hair.
In this episode, Lisa sits with Shamekqua Smith, a licensed hair stylist as she describes her versatile approach to her hairstyles, alternating a natural look with wigs and weaves. Also, talking about hair discrimination issues including black-on-black biases which cut across any hairstyle, Shamekqua emphasizes that every black woman can be versatile and still appreciate being a natural-born sister without apology or explanation.
SHOW NOTES
Shamekqua initially went natural at 17yrs old in high school but started wearing wigs to try a different look, while allowing her hair to stay natural under the wig. Much later, for a while, she went back to her natural look, and over time, switching between both has become her style.
Although Shamekqua loves her natural hair, sometimes it can be too much to manage which makes the wig very handy, however other times, she just wants to go natural. Whether to free up hair kinking or simply get a new look, she wears her versatility as her identity. Key points from this episode include;
