“Think Like a Monk” Here is my summary and my take on the book by Jay Shetty.

Jay submits that if we incorporate the following 5 habits into our daily activities we can live a more fulling and happy life!

1. Develop a daily mindfulness practice

2. Focus on serving others

3. Let go of attachment

4. Embrace discomfort

5. Develop a sense of purpose

What is the Monk Mind vs. Monkey Mind?

These comparisons highlight the key differences between the two modes of thinking and suggest that by cultivating our “monk mind” we can live more fulfilling and purposeful lives.

  • Focus:
  • Distraction:
  • Clarity:
  • Stress:
  • Presence:
  • Self-awareness:
  • Gratitude:

To begin thinking more like a monk and less like a monkey, you can try incorporating some of the following practices into your life:

  • Meditation (app I mentioned that I use is called Headspace)
  • Mindfulness
  • Gratitude
  • Service
  • Letting go
  • Self-reflection

Developing more meaningful relationships require:

  • Listen actively
  • Be vulnerable
  • Practice empathy
  • Be generous
  • Practice forgiveness
  • Cultivate gratitude

By incorporating these practices into our relationships, we can develop deeper, more meaningful connections with others and live more fulfilling lives.

You can begin to cultivate a more monk-like mindset, characterized by greater focus, clarity, and peace of mind.

It takes time and effort to develop these habits, but with consistent practice, you can gradually shift from monkey mind to monk mind.

Overall, “Think Like a Monk” is a thoughtful and practical guide to living a more purposeful and mindful life and it encourages us to develop a daily mindfulness practice, focus on serving others, let go of attachments, embrace discomfort and find a sense of purpose and meaning in life.
