Target AudienceThis activity is targeted toward primary care and pediatric healthcare providers and advanced providers.

Statement of NeedThis program will provide the latest information on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric hypertension. Additionally, risk factors and etiology will be reviewed. Hypertension in the pediatric population continues to rise; and rates have shown an increasing linear relationship to increasing adiposity. According to the CDC, approximately 20% of children less than 19 are considered obese.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:

  1. Define pediatric hypertension.
  2. List the diagnostic guidelines for pediatric hypertension.
  3. Review the proper technique for taking blood pressure in pediatric patients to ensure accuracy.
  4. Describe the etiology and risk factors for pediatric hypertension.
