Welcome to The Career Guide Podcast!
The Career Guide Podcast is a behind-the-scenes conversation with professionals who have managed to develop long-term careers overseas with organizations like the United Nations, EU, NATO, and OSCE. The goal of this interview series is not to provide technical details and advice already covered in this course but to hear from career professionals about the experiences, challenges, and life as an international professional.
Today we’re talking with Jelena Zelenovic. Jelena has degrees in languages (French and Spanish), law and international affairs (with a focus on peace and security) from Australia and France. She started her development career with the Australian Government, working for the then Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) as a program officer covering governance, human security and education portfolio. While with AusAID she worked both at Headquarters in Canberra and in the field in Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste, supporting Australian Government's education programming and working closely with the partner Government's Ministries of Education. After that she became an Australian Junior Professional Officer (JPO) with the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs in New York. She stayed in that Office following the completion of her JPO assignment and now supports the design and monitoring or peacebuilding projects funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund in around 15 countries in Africa and Asia-Pacific.
