Dr. Helen Rodríguez Trías stands as a public health trailblazer and advocate for the most vulnerable members of society. She was the first Latina president of the American Public Health Association (APHA). Throughout her life, Dr. Rodríguez Trías forged a powerful legacy by expanding public health services for disadvantaged women and children across the globe.

2nd Lieutenant Emily Jazmin Tatum Perez was more than just a name; she was a symbol of courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her country. Emily made history as the first black female officer in U.S. military history to die in combat. She was the first graduate of the "Class of 9/11" to fall in combat and the first female West Point graduate to meet the same fate.

The last Sunday of September is observed as Gold Star Mother's and Family Day, a time to honor the families of fallen military service members. As we celebrate this day, let us remember the life and legacy of 2nd LT Emily JT Perez—a hero who embodied the values of service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to her country.
