For so many young people these days the decision of whether or not to attend a traditional four-year college seems more difficult than ever. The increasing cost of higher education coupled with the crushing realities of student debt are just two of the many factors that need to be considered when deciding if college is the right fit for you or your teen. Our guest today is here to help listeners consider the possibly lucrative and rewarding alternatives to a traditional college education and how the workforce of the future will likely care less and less about traditional college degrees.

Ken Rusk is an entrepreneur and advocate for blue-collar careers. He is the author of the new book, Blue Collar Cash, and has built a thriving and lucrative business without a formal education. Throughout the interview, Ken discusses his experiences starting from digging ditches to growing his own company with nearly 200 employees. He emphasizes the importance of mentoring and coaching young people in setting goals and financial planning. In his view, college is not the only path to success, and he explores alternative routes such as trade schools, apprenticeships, and military careers.

Ken also challenges the belief that college is the only way to achieve financial stability and questions the effectiveness of college endowment funds in making education more affordable. Ken and Roger discuss insights on the value of manual labor, the pros and cons of today’s technology, and the importance of creating a great company culture that values the skills and hard work that employees bring to your business. Ken's ultimate goal is to help others live fulfilled lives and make a positive impact on society. In this episode, listeners will gain some valuable perspectives and the wisdom that on-the-job training and real-world entrepreneurship can teach you that you will never learn in a classroom!

Topics include:

  • The Advantages of Blue Collar Work
  • The Burden of Student Debt
  • Reflections on Comfort Peace and Freedom
  • What Hard Work Teaches Us About Ourselves
  • Understanding The “Five Gallon Bucket Brain”
