The women inside my programs are incredibly empathetic, compassionate leaders who are lifting others up and making a huge impact at their organizations. But in order to do that, they first had to become incredibly selfish. And I’m not talking about the run-of-the-mill selfishness that leads to so many a-holes being in executive leadership. I’m talking about the kind of selfishness that will allow you to do things like: Leave work every day at 4pm to pick up your kids; go on a 5-week sabbatical and still get promoted when you return; and bring more empathy, diversity, inclusion and compassion to the leadership table and completely change how business is run in the process. This is my new definition of selfishness.
