My 5th episode is a little bit different. It is a very real and a very personal story by Osayi Omoregie on navigating life as a black Londoner. He is genuinely kind and incredibly intelligent, but unfortunately, due to the biases still existing in the society, he now and again needs to prove or confirm both of these things simply because he exists in a black body. In his professional life Osayi is the founder and owner of OMRG Motors and has an extensive experience in delivery of transformational projects across multiple industries.
This conversation is all about him. I am the privileged, white person who is there to listen to Osayi’s story and to learn ways how I can be a better ally for the black community. Black Lives Matter. Period. My team needs to start taking on more responsibility and make changes happen.
In this week's episode we speak about biases and how to identify them, clarify why BAME is not the most helpful term, discuss why diversity challenges are still real in large organisations, such as NHS and the police, reflect on the UK government’s recent report on race by the Commission on Ethnic and Racial Disparities and above all we look at Osayi's personal stories throughout his life confirming that we still have loads to do.
