ADHD, how Film & TV can help your mental health and finding your tribe, with James Dyer
Manage episode 354321892 series 3444233
Ohhh what a treat this one is, especially if you’re a nerd like me.
Awesome to be joined by James Dyer, digital editor in chief of Empire Magazine and one of the hosts of The Empire Podcast and The Pilot TV podcast.
There’s rarely a day when I’m not listening to these guys talking about film and TV, so it was a complete honour and pleasure to get to chat with James.
The main thing I wanted to get him on for was discussing the power of escapism and how it can help our mental health so much. Whilst we did discuss this, we got into so much more and went to places I didn't even know we would, particularly James talking about his ADHD diagnosis, dispelling some of the connotations that come with it.
We discussed:
- James’ experience with ADHD and his coping mechanisms
- Why finding your tribe and having shared interests is so valuable in for your wellbeing
- Dealing with imposter syndrome and recognising it’ll never go away (and why that's a good thing)
- Mental health representation in film & tv
- Nerd culture in the mainstream
And a whoooole lot more. Man, what a joy this one was, even if you’re not that into film & tv, there’s still so much to take from this.
