This is one of the more upsetting cases I've ever covered, and trigger warning: it involves the horrific murder of a 10 year old girl. This story takes place in New Mexico, and it is a doozy! Beyond the horrifying details of this poor little girl's murder, which are murky at best, this case also highlights the repeated failures of the state, both through their child protective services, and their police department. Victoria Martens was failed by the system on every single level, and her blood is absolutely on the hands of the State of New Mexico. Frustratingly, those may be the only hands ever definitively linked to her murder. Listen in to hear more.
