Byron Lane was Carrie Fisher's personal assistant for many years. He got closer to her and experienced her intimate day to day life, like no other. He sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to share his journey, that of which is all detailed in his newly released book, A Star is Bored. His first encounter with her mother, Debbie Reynolds, he described her in real life, just as she was on screen, not an actor, but a movie star. Byron has written screenplays and musicals for stage, but he says by far that writing a book is the toughest and most demanding. He describes his process to writing and helps others understand the different approaches and techniques for those also interested in telling their own stories. It can be a daunting task, like Stephen King once said, "it's like crossing the Atlantic ocean in a bathtub". He finishes with the unexpected passing of Princess Leia, it's impact on him, it's impact on generations, and it's impact on the world.

There comes a time in one’s life when we all realize the importance of “saving the bees”. We see the true importance of life and leave behind the unnecessary attachments and unrealistic milestones. Alimi Ballard once again joins America’s Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to talk about how the world teaches us to feel that we are always missing out on something. FOMO(Fear of Missing Out). All artists struggle with self doubt, something that stays with them their entire career, but also reminds them they still care and have a passion for their craft. There is no right or wrong when it comes to creating art, so self doubt will always be a byproduct of its creation. Alimi says his way of calming his nerves is to always go hard, overworking and overproducing. Do your best, then go home. Have fun, that’s the key to art, you can’t force art. He says, “Get into the habit of giving more than you are paid for”. These are words of wisdom that can be applied to any career field, but in the arts, there is no excuse for laziness. They then get into the little known, but truthful discussion about the existence of “the list”. Not of public record, rarely discussed, all the big Hollywood studios have actors on a virtual list. If you are lucky enough to be on this list, the doors of opportunity are far and wide, you are most often the first choice when casting a role. If one is not on the list, they must fight, scratch and claw for any scraps that may fall from the main dinner table. And finally, Alimi breaks down the difference between a Guest Star role and Series Regular on our favorite television shows. What it feels like for actors to walk on a set as a Guest Star as opposed to a Regular. He says, “your job is to burn their house down, the show already has started the fire, the guest star needs to come in as gasolina”!! Imagine walking into a families house for Thanksgiving dinner and you don’t know anyone, but you are expected to know where everything is, how to do everything without error, but also ask permission to use the bathroom, utensils, sit at the dinner table. The series regulars are a tight knit family, and the guest star is the stranger expected to come in and shake things up, be the life of the party. There is no greater pressure in the job world, and you will hear first hand from those whom live it. XX Please Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. What's Your Name Again? - with Kurt Caceres

Alimi Ballard is Marcel Dumas on the hit show, Queen of the South, and currently can be seen on the new Peacock series, One of Us is Lying. He sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to help us understand the importance of "listening". Often times you'll hear couples in arguments and one always complains that their partner "never listens". Well it applies to real life, but even more to the craft of acting. If an actor doesn't understand the importance, then they will never sound organic, real and authentic. Alimi said he used to study the best of them all, Robert DeNiro. He said DeNiro was the master at listening when other actors were talking, watching all the nuances, details and depth of story happening inside his mind and body as he took in every word the other actor was giving. It is the key to ultimate transcendence as an actor. He also shares his approach to every character, and helps us understand the difference between "method" and "imagination". And finally, he shares publicly for the very first time, his two absolutely unbreakable rules for the industry of Hollywood. XX Please Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. What's Your Name Again? - with Kurt Caceres

While he was at the top of his craft as an actor in Hollywood, he came up with an idea for a video game live streaming concept. He was shot down all over town and told "no one will ever watch people play video games". Well a few years later, the biggest live streaming conglomerate on the planet, Twitch, was launched to change the world forever. Brett Claywell once again sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to discuss being way ahead of his time in a genre that only now is taking over the mainstream. He has proven that we can start second careers later in life. He has shown that you can be a celebrity and leave it all behind to follow a true passion. He produced live script readings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Goonies and Dazed and Confused. During the pandemic, he was able to assemble celebrities, from Sean Astin to Jason Alexander and even Rosario Dawson. Brett is an example that if you no longer wish to be someone's puppet, it's time to turn yourself into the puppet master. Take your career into your own hands and create what you want. He says, "believe in yourself or no one else ever will". XX Please Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. Most actors deep down hope they can play roles that have an impact on society, move people with emotion, and in the rare case, become part of something much bigger than all of us. Brett Claywell sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to share his experience as a heterosexual young man from the south, playing one of the first gay characters on television, performing the first gay love scene in history and winning a Daytime Emmy all for this portrayal. This came at a time when gay marriage was only legal in a few states, and most of his family didn't understand nor could accept him choosing to play this role. This is the same kid who was put on hold for one of the leads opposite Natalie Portman, in the film Black Swan. After he auditioned for hours in a dark intimidating room for the legendary director Darren Aronofsky himself. Eventually the role went to Sebastian Stan, but this is the journey of an actor. Unknown to most, Brett played basketball on one of the most high profile national high school teams in the nation, and this is the reason he got the part of Tim Smith in the CW hit show, One Tree Hill. His father used to make him throw 100 pitches and shoot 100 free throws everyday after school. It's all about the work ethic, and he says that all his successful friends in Hollywood didn't make it to the top on a whim, they hustled and grinded day and night behind the scenes for years, unseen to most. Winning Emmy Awards. Playing on a hit show. Being groomed for one of the leads in a classic American film. And now he has all but retired from the business and has moved on to new ventures. This is the life of an actor in Hollywood. Please Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. Writers not only take us away from our reality and into imagination, but they educate, commentate and often prophesize the future. Directors like Steven Spielberg have been doing it in Hollywood for decades, forecasting a possible future world not to far off, that we all believe is inevitable. Rob Adetuyi is no different, sitting with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, he describes in detail, the journey as a writer/director who's foundation is based off his passion for the human condition. There is a misconception and so many misinformed about the zeitgeist in society today. He is trailblazing a new era of storytelling, from truth, history and imagination. He shares his process on casting his films, saying that "finding the right actor is like shopping for shoes, you just know when you see them". "You can feel when the right one walks in the room, it's an energy they have", says Rob. However, he admits that no human is immune to subconscious bias, especially in an industry such as Hollywood. And finally, with so many leaders and celebrities being accused of professional or sexual misconduct, he gives his advice for staying safe, walking the straight line and avoiding any future transgressions. What's Your Name Again? - with Kurt Caceres

Rob Adetuyi grew up in a small mining town in Canada. His view of the country was much different than the rest of the world envisions, but that is what has made him a successful writer, director and storyteller in Hollywood. He sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to share his incredible journey from a small town blue collar labor union upbringing, to the big budget sets and walking the lots of the biggest film studios in the world. His climb took decades, living in obscurity for many years, writing and pitching scripts to studios and executives. He received his college degree in Sociology, which has helped catapult him into writing and telling poignant stories about the human condition. He says that when writing a screenplay, story is more important than anything else. It can have the explosions and special effects, but without story, it has no depth, no longevity. He shares many behind the scenes experiences that the rest of the world never will experience. From studio executives, agents, writers and even actors bringing in their own personal scribes to rewrite their dialogue. This is a true behind the scenes expose into how the Hollywood machine works. Maya Stojan once was a member of the Swiss National Golf team before playing for her college in the United States. Her transition from athlete to actor is a recipe to learn from. She sits to share with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, what she feels are the three things that are necessary to make it in Hollywood. She talks about the resurgence of older actors in TV and Film, because they bring substance as opposed to youth and beauty. She worked with legends William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd in the film, Senior Moment. She divulges the key to shooting sex scenes in the business and truth behind the stigma. And finally, she shares her journey as a bi-sexual human being, living life in the shadows and secrets, until she finally revealed her truth at the time she married American Rugby legend, Todd Clever. The human spirit has no picture, and Maya Stojan is the epitome of transcendence. XX Please Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. It usually takes an actor 4 to 5 years to scratch the surface and make a mark in Hollywood. Maya Stojan was told she had literally one year to make it as an actor, or get deported. As an immigrant without the proper credentials, she tells America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, how she kept losing jobs she was chosen for, because she didn't yet have the proper work papers. But she hustled, found creative and bold ways to get seen, crashed auditions, and was downright relentless. She is the perfect example of a child who was extremely shy and introverted, who used the craft of acting to break free from those constraints and find confidence in herself. As a recurring character on shows like CASTLE and AGENTS of SHIELD, she tells us that it's integral to love the audition process. It must be seen as a chance to perform, have fun, explore and create. Those who look at the audition process as a chore or a nuisance, most often will never find success in the business. XX Please Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. What's Your Name Again? - with Kurt Caceres

America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, sits with a musical legacy, part of a family of accomplished musicians that goes back generations from New Orleans. Young Miller is the nephew of award winning and multi-million album selling rapper Master P. Young Miller grew up around music in one of the most dangerous projects in the United States, called Calliope. By luck, chance and the grace of the universe, Young Miller had the opportunity to move away from the dangerous streets to the exact polar opposite juxtaposed location, Beverly Hills, California. Young Miller said kids tried to bully him early and make fun of his accent, because people in the south use different terms and slang. He quickly made a name for himself amongst the "90210 and Clueless" crowd at Beverly Hills High School, attending at the same time and being friends with the real life players from the hit television show, "All American". He very early started collaborating with his cousin, "Lil Romeo", on music that would today influence him to make high energy party vibe songs such as "VIP" and "Clap Clap". Young Miller not only is a student of the music game, but has an expertise and professional approach to the business itself. He shares the reasons why many rappers arrive quick and disappear even faster. Fortunately growing up with moguls ahead of him with the "No Limit Soldiers", he learned how to master the business from a young age and is now taking over the industry with an independent label instead of choosing to go with one of the big corporate names. What's Your Name Again? - with Kurt Caceres

"If I'm not directing, I can't even be on set, sets are boring" exclaims David Zucker, as he sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, for the final part of the trilogy straight from his home in Brentwood, California. He talks about the luck it takes to make it in Hollywood. It's a fairy tale story about a young reader from a studio who passed on their now iconic projects, who just so happened to be at a dinner with Michael Eisner who asked the table, "has anyone read anything interesting lately?". The reader said "yes, as a matter of fact I have..........", and the rest is history. Landing at Paramount with Eisner and Jefferey Katzenberg changed the landscape of comedy in film forever. They originally wanted Hall of Fame baseball player, Pete Rose, for the role Kareem Abdul-Jabbar eventually played, but he couldn't do it because it was shooting in the middle of a baseball pennant race. He shares the formula for successful films in Hollywood and says, "when the audience exits the film, that's when you know if you won or lost". "Top Secret was the funniest movie I ever made", says David , "but it wasn't a good movie". Top Secret just so happened to open the same exact weekend in 1984 as the original Karate Kid film with Ralph Macchio. Suffice to say, it got destroyed at the box office. And finally, David talks about his new book, "Before the Invention of Smiling", and it's historical importance not only for him, but for everyone out there needing to keep story and history of their own family legacy. David Zucker grew up in a household surrounded by comedy. His Mother and Father both were witty and it passed down to him and his brother. America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, finds out first hand when they discover an Orange tree in David's back yard, and notice that all the Oranges have stickers on them, like they would at the grocery store. This is the kind of mind the Zuckers possess, to create cult classic films like Airplane and the Naked Gun franchise. The film "Baseketball" was born from a game he invented playing Basketball on his front driveway in Westwood, California. This turned into a league that even included the now famous directors, screenwriters and producers, The Farrelly Brothers. Comedy is his forte', and he describes how their process is different from anyone else who's ever done it since. He also lets us know that he doesn't appreciate when people try and always tell him jokes, because he has to "pay attention" and laugh when it's not even funny. No introduction to the man who grew up a die hard Green Bay Packers fan and was the product of a historic blizzard in 1947 Wisconsin is complete, without the mention of Airplane. David Zucker is part of the legendary trio who created the most classic and still to date, most comedic and creative film comedy franchise in the history of Hollywood. He opens up his residence in Brentwood, California to America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to talk about his career and how comedy has changed from the 1980's to present day. It would be impossible to make anything funny now. He said someone once asked him, "David, could you do Airplane today?", and his response was, "of course we could, just without the jokes". The style they created was cutting edge and appealed to generations after. However, with cancel culture, Karens, over sensitive American's and any other complaining movements out there, the acceptable topics of humor these days are far and few between. He said they hired actors on their films, not comics. They had to stick to script and never adlib, often rewriting on the fly in the middle of shooting a scene, opening the floor of creative ideas to anyone in ear shot, even crew members. The behind the scenes stories David shares are both timeless and inspirational. XX Please Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. Don Most sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to finish out the trilogy with a nice discussion about his new album and what it's like touring with his big band around the country. He says that collaborating on a song or album feels similar to collaborating as a director on a film. He also knows that his entire band are a team just like the entire crew on a film set should earn the same respect. Everyone are equals and have the same goal, success and creating the final product, be it a song, television show or movie. Finally, they don't forget to touch on the topic of the all to famous lawsuit and legal battle between CBS and the cast of Happy Days from many years before. As he admits "the cast got screwed, and probably shouldn't have taken the deal", but it's all history now. He gives credit to his wife for keeping him sane as a performer all these years, in an entertainment business that is forever cyclical, filled with hot streaks and cold ones, feast or famine. What's Your Name Again? - with Kurt Caceres

Playing an iconic television character for multiple seasons makes an actor and their alter ego a house hold name and part of mainstream society, usually with a loyal and obsessive cult following. But with such success and fame, comes the curse of an actor often not being able to break from being known only as the character they so brilliantly created for so many years. Don Most, who played Ralph Malph on Happy Days, explains to America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, what actors need to do to reinvent themselves and continue their career long after their character and hit show disappears into the archives of our memories. He tells us that no longer can actors just be one dimensional, they need to continue to perform in live theater, become writers, direct their own films, do voice over work and even have a music career. Don has done it all and continues to prove to himself and Hollywood that he was more than just a one hit wonder. He is a multi-faceted talent that can do it all, and he clues us in on how to make that happen for yourself. How to keep your sanity. To keep the course. Most(no pun intended) have heard the term "Jump the Shark", but so few know from where it originated. America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, introduces us to its birth on the legendary television show, Happy Days. Little does he know that his guest, Don Most, who played Ralph Malph on the series, is the first to have coined the term before they even shot the episode. According to Ron Howard, after they did the first reading of this now famous episode, Don pulled him aside and said in horror, "He jumps a Shark?". The rest is history, and Don shares with us the audition process that landed him one of the most iconic television characters in modern era Hollywood. Ironically, he originally turned down the role, but his agent just so happened to play basketball with Garry Marshall and Don's life would change forever. Personal costumer to David Boreanaz from SEAL Team, Rob Bolger, describes to America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, about the nomadic life of a costumer in Hollywood. He compares it to that of a carnival carny, always on the move, never stability, thankful when you have a job, often always ready for the next. "Being of service to others" he says, whatever is needed, he is there for the actors and the production. He is known for having a knack for dealing with difficult actors. He says his job is "common sense, he's not a creative". "Work smart, not hard" he remembers one of his great teachers telling him. He talks about working with David E. Kelly who only writes one draft of a script, as well as how amazing David Rapaport is as an actor. Artists today just want the quick road to fame, no practice, no craft, just instant fame. Musicians and actors used to honor the craft and daily practice, that's why so much of Hollywood has lost in quality what it's gained in celebrity. Rob Bolger grew up in famous Reseda, California, just up the block from the original apartment building Ralph Macchio lived, in the original Karate Kid films. He tells America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, how he went from a guitar tech touring with The Go-Go's, to working on some of the biggest Hollywood films such as Ali and The Italian Job. Currently he is David Boreanaz personal costumer on the hit show, Seal Team. His job is to analyze every inch of clothing on an actor for continuity, dirt, buttons and fine details. He often finds himself analyzing peoples wardrobe when he meets someone new in real life, and he calls this "Elevator Eyes", because he gives everyone a once-over from top to bottom. He really breaks down the hierarchy and pecking order of the costume world in Hollywood, and shares in-depth experiences from life on set. Dealing with manic celebrities, background actors and even directors, takes a special person to do "whatever is needed", instead of being difficult to work with. The industry is all about nepotism, not about degrees and education. If you have a good attitude, stellar reputation and exemplary work ethic, people will want to work with you time and again. Stevie D returns for his encore performance with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, in front of 70,000 screaming fans. He's not entitled, but emphasizes the fact that after 25 years on the big stage, he has earned the right to request certain accommodations, just like any successful artist who has paid their dues. Life on tour destroys the mind and body, it's a whirlwind ride, night after night full of adrenaline. But what happens after a 300 show tour ends? How does one handle the silence after the storm? The quiet in solitude, alone after months on a traveling high. Many performers fall into drugs and alcohol to fill the empty void, it's a dangerous trap that so few have the ability to cope with. As he's aged, so has his wisdom and ability to balance life on the road, time in the studio, and his duty as father to his son. He closes out with a discussion on Rock Star hair, ink and fashion and says "it's not what you wear, but how you own it". Musicians can do anything to their style and the fans accept it because they are bigger than life, confident shapeshifters, setting trends that everyone is willing to accept. Stevie D says "it's not always about being the best guitarist, it's about the craft, and most important, the song". He sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to talk about guitar greats in the history of Rock-n-Roll. He studied Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Angus young, but "Eddie Van Halen was shredding in ways that no one had ever seen or done before and no guitarist understood what was happening" exclaims Stevie. You couldn't be a guitar player in his generation without being influenced by Eddie. "They say to never meet your hero's, well often times the bigger they are, the nicer they are", Stevie says of the times he met Eddie in person. "The intro to Mean Street, was like, wtf was he doing, it was so foreign and alien to the industry" says Stevie. Starting his musical career on piano, he fell into guitar after a woman broke his heart, so he locked himself away for months distracting himself with the guitar, which would end up being his instrument of choice for life. Like many kids of the 80's, his parents would take his Motley Crue or KISS albums because they were considered violent, to sexy and devil worshipping. Of course, every parent of the 80's was wrong, but Stevie followed that path and became a rock star himself. Finally, Stevie digs deep into his decades of sobriety and the daily struggle many face, especially during a time of pandemic.
