Confirmation Bias - The Effects 31:23

Confirmation bias affects everything, but what is it and what are the effects? If you buy a particular car, a particular model and a particular colour, a car that you've never owned before and have never taken much notice of them or seen them on the road. But once you've bought the car and start driving it around, what do you see everywhere? The same car, the same model, the same colour. Your perception filters are now searching for what's familiar. These perception filters, our confirmation bias, and our experiences of these affects all areas of our lives. Our relationships, our health, our wealth, our world views, absolutely everything. Noticing the same car as yours is one thing, but what if your experiences of your confirmation bias (that you have no idea that you have) are severely affecting your life and that of others. But what happens when your confirmation bias kicks in because of the colour of someone's skin, their race, which country they're from, due to an experience or experiences you may have had with them? If you have a certain belief system, such as the earth is flat or the earth is round, we landed on the moon, didn't land on the moon (just watch the triggers these belief patterns kick off!), you will always find the information that confirms your bias, and you may ridicule those who have opposite beliefs. If you believe that gubberments and corporations, etc, have your best interests at heart, you will always find information to support that, on the flip side, if you believe they don't have your best interests at heart, you will find information to support that too. What does this of all do? Well, it can keep you in a constant echo chamber which can severely restrict your growth, your acquirement of new knowledge that exists outside of your perception filters. The thing is, there may be particular groups of people out there, that may use your confirmation bias to serve their purposes. To go to war for example, to force something upon the whole world which is detrimental to the human race, or for you to give up your civil liberties, your rights, your freedom. This is when it having a confirmation bias can be extremely harmful. And to some that's fine, they are happy living in a bubble.. But those that seek growth may actually be stifling their own growth without realising due to their confirmation bias. Confirmation bias can be seen as pitchfork mentality, which I think you'll agree, there's been a lot of that over the past several years. Do you recognise your confirmation bias'?
