As people worldwide watch the Olympics, we take this opportunity to contemplate the importance of sports in our lives. Sports serve as a mirror to society, reflecting its values, aspirations, and challenges. Moreover, sports is like a live laboratory where the boundaries of human capacity and norms can be challenged and redefined. In this Puliyabaazi, we are joined by Nandan Kamath, a sports lawyer and a sportsperson, who takes us through the many experiments in the laboratory of sports. What he draws are not just lessons in sports governance but also in philosophy. Do listen in.

We discuss:

* Why should we care about sports?

* Sports as a Global Common

* Making sports more inclusive

* Gender and stereotype threats

* Can we have mixed team sports?

* What is sporting culture?

* Sports governance in India

* Should India host the Olympics?

* Developing sports ecosystem in India- a ‘Samaaj, Sarkaar aur Bazaar’ view

Readings:

Boundary Lab: Inside the Global Experiment Called Sport by Nandan Kamath

Building a Sporting Nation: Online Course co-created by OpenTakshashila & Sports and Society Accelerator
